Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! James and I missed being home, as this was our first holiday away from family and we celebrated just the 2 of us. Although we wished we could see family in CO, we had so much fun cooking our own thanksgiving dinner, starting new traditions and experiencing an iconic tradition here in New York! We went to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!! We got off of the subway around 7:15 and walked through the park over to Central park west and scouted out a great spot on the wall by 63rd street. While we waited, we chatted with the people around us, sipped coffee and had a pretzel from a street vendor for breakfast. (We should have went with the hot dog… what were we thinking??)

James and I have so much to be thankful for. So many times people focus on the things they don’t have, while often times taking for granted the things they do have. James and I each made a top ten list expressing what we are thankful for and we took turns and read our lists while we ate dinner, toasting with our wine glasses after each item. Looking around our apartment while eating dinner, James looks at me and says, “We did it…” and we both smile and let that sink in a little.
This move was the hardest thing that we have ever done; the only way that we got through it was to take it one day at a time, because when you think about the big picture it can be quite terrifying. We quit our jobs, moved away from our family and friends, and spent A LOT of our savings, only to move to a really expensive city with no guarantee of jobs in an unreliable economy, an apartment, or anything really… besides only spending more money. We’ve only been here about a month and a half and we REALLY have so much to be thankful for.
We are thankful for the roof over our heads, warmth, and the ability to make it comfortable and ours. We are thankful for our education, opportunity, talents and ability to follow our hearts. We are thankful for perseverance and the support from our families and each other to persevere. We are thankful for the ability to wake up every day feeling refreshed and happy. We are thankful for our new friends and their kindness. We are so thankful for each other; for we know that this would not have been possible without each other’s support, positivity and patience. We are forever thankful for God’s grace and presence in our lives, which has been so rejuvenated by Central Presbyterian Church. With these and many others, we have been blessed.
